From September 2006, new laws will apply with regard to child restraints in
Current UK law is fairly relaxed about car safety seat requirements. Children aged 3 to 11 (inclusive) and under 4ft 11ins (150cm) tall are allowed to use an adult seat belt, where no child seat is fitted. Things are going to be very different from September - the date the new rules come into force is expected to be 18 th September and these are the requirements: Children aged 3 to 11, under the height of 4ft 5ins (135cm) tall will ( life insurance ) need to be seated in an approved child seat or booster seat, suitable for their age and weight. Booster seats are designed to be used in conjunction with an adult seat belt. Exceptions are for emergencies, cars without rear seat belts ( pet insurance ) and for children travelling in taxis. Children taller than 4ft 5ins or 135cm or aged over 12 must wear an adult seat belt where one is fitted. The driver is responsible for ensuring these rules are obeyed until the ( secured loans ) child reaches their 14 th birthday and from then on they must take responsibility for their own safety. |
