According to the Department for Transport, It is expected that these regulations will prevent some 2,000 child injuries and deaths per year. Safety approved rear-facing baby seats, suitable for babies up to around 9 ( life insurance ) months old can continue to be used in either the front (as long as there is no airbag fitted, or any airbag fitted has been inactivated) or in the rear of the car. It is then possible to buy an approved seat which will be suitable for use from 9 months onwards, right through to the 12 year requirement. These are available from several car seat manufacturers and a typical one is the Recaro Start seat which retails at around £200. Britax offer a seat which is adjustable and will suit children weighing from ( pet insurance ) 15 to 36kg and up to the 4ft 5ins requirement. The back of the seat can be extended as the child grows, so that the child's head is always supported. This is called the Evolva 23 and can be found for around £65. It is essential the child-seats must be properly fitted and often a ( secured loans ) fitting service is offered via the retailer from whom the seat was purchased. Remember, it's not just parents and carers who will need to comply with the new rules. There may be times when family and friends get involved in child care too.
